PRODUCER BATTLE @ THE JUMP OFF
THE JUMP OFF OVERVIEW
Drawing a crowd of 1000+ our monthly flagship event in the heart of London's West End is the UKs biggest monthly urban event. Made up of several segments ranging from dance and rap battles to fashion shows and live photo shoots, The Jump Off is where fashion, music and the arts collide. With MySpace UK and Kiss FM as Official Media Partners, The Jump Off event is a great platform to reach the youth market and create a global buzz.
In addition to the live event, the website www.jumpoff.tv reaches 300K unique visitors per month, and features all the videos and images from the event. For more information on our coverage stats www.jumpoff.tv/mediakit
THE PRODUCER BATTLE OVERVIEW
Hip Hop music producers drive the $11Billion Hip Hop market. Nothing captures the imagination more than a world wide hit song. But these musical genius's rarely get the credit they deserve as they often play second fiddle to the rappers and singers. Providing an educational angle to the craft, the audience will get to see how the producers work their magic, layer by layer, under the pressure of having to make a beat in 5 minutes before a live audience.
Since 2003 Jump Off TV have been hosting Producer Battle events across the UK and over the years have fine tuned the format into the perfect entertainment spectacle. Music is unquestionably a passion point and will always be relevant to youth culture and entertainment.
THE FORMAT
Producers have 5 minutes to make a 3 part arrangement of an intro, verse and chorus, both using exactly the same kit and sounds. The kit will include a two octive keyboard, drum pads and a laptop computer. The sampler and sequencer will run on the laptop computer and be operated by a Jump Off TV sound engineer. The tempo and sounds are predetermined and cannot be changed. The producer must first select which instrument they want and then inform the sound engineer once they are ready to record.
Similar to a real studio environment, communication with the engineer is vital. To add variation, some rounds will require a beat to be made around famous hip hop acapella's.
The idea is simple; give two people exactly the same tools, sounds and time and see which can rock the house.
What sets The Jump Off Producer Battle apart from other producer battle formats is:
- diverse line up of producers from different ethnicities and backgrounds,
- producers have to compose on the spot, so its a real test of ability under pressure
- the audience get to see how the producer tackles making a beat, providing an educational aspect.
